About Dooks Golf Links

Dooks Golf Links is one of Ireland's hidden treasures — a traditional links course on the Ring of Kerry that has been welcoming golfers since 1889, making it one of the oldest clubs in Munster. Set on a narrow strip of duneland between Dingle Bay and Caragh Lake, with Seefin Mountain rising sharply to the north and the McGillycuddy's Reeks visible to the east, Dooks offers a genuinely authentic links experience at a fraction of the cost of Kerry's more celebrated courses.

The course was established by Scottish railway workers employed on the Great Southern & Western Railway, and retains the character of a traditional club throughout. The layout makes clever use of its limited duneland, with fairways that wind and twist through natural ridges of sand and grasses. The views across Dingle Bay are constant and spectacular — on clear days, the Dingle Peninsula is visible to the north, with the island of Valentia and the Skellig Rocks to the south-west.

Dooks measures 6,511 yards at par 72 and represents excellent value at €55–€80 per round. No handicap certificate is required and the welcome is genuinely warm. The course is popular with golfers making a Ring of Kerry circuit and provides an important counterpoint to the high-profile links at Waterville, Ballybunion and Tralee. Advance booking is advisable in summer but the club is generally more flexible than its more famous neighbours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need before you play Dooks Golf Links

Dooks Golf Links was founded in 1889 by Scottish railway workers — making it one of the oldest golf clubs in Munster and one of the oldest in Ireland. Its longevity is a testament to the quality of the links terrain and the warmth of the club community. The course has been modified and improved over 135 years while retaining the essential character of a traditional Irish links club.
Dooks is widely regarded as one of the best-value golf courses in Kerry. At €55–€80 per round, it offers genuine links golf in a spectacular setting for a fraction of the cost of the county's flagship courses. Visitors who add Dooks to their Ring of Kerry golf itinerary are invariably pleasantly surprised by both the quality of the golf and the scenery.
Dooks is situated at Glenbeigh on the north side of the Iveragh Peninsula, about 20km from Killorglin and 45km from Killarney on the Ring of Kerry road. The course sits on a narrow neck of land between Dingle Bay and Caragh Lake — one of the most dramatic natural settings in Kerry golf. Access is via the N70 Ring of Kerry road.
The views from Dooks are exceptional. On clear days — which are more common than Kerry's weather reputation suggests — you can see Dingle Peninsula across Dingle Bay to the north, the mountain ranges of the Ring of Kerry to the south and east, and on very clear days, the Blasket Islands to the west. Several holes play directly along the shoreline with uninterrupted coastal views.
Absolutely — Dooks is perfectly positioned on the Ring of Kerry circuit and is a natural inclusion in any south or west Kerry golf break. It combines well with Waterville (40 minutes south), Ceann Sibéal on the Dingle Peninsula (45 minutes north), and the Killarney courses (50 minutes east). Many golfers include Dooks as a more relaxed day between their premium course bookings.
