About Castlegregory Golf Links

Castlegregory Golf Links offers the most affordable links golf in Kerry — a relaxed and scenic nine-hole (played as 18) course set on the narrow spit of land that divides Tralee Bay from Brandon Bay on the northern edge of the Dingle Peninsula. The course is open, windswept and characterful, playing at just 5,800 yards to a par of 70, and providing a friendly welcome to golfers of all abilities without formality or expense.

The natural setting at Castlegregory is quite extraordinary — the course occupies a thin sandbar peninsula with water visible on both sides, and views extending to the Brandon Mountain massif, the Slieve Mish Mountains and the open waters of Tralee Bay. The golf itself is unpretentious but genuinely enjoyable, with the wind providing a constant challenge that levels the playing field between scratch golfers and high handicappers. Greens are small, firm and quick — a reminder that this is seaside golf at its most natural.

At €25–€35 per round, Castlegregory is the most economical links round in Kerry and represents superb value for golfers on a budget or looking for a relaxed warm-up round before tackling the county's premium courses. The club is informal and welcoming with no handicap requirement. The nearby Camp and Castlegregory villages offer simple accommodation and excellent seafood, and the route to the course along the northern Dingle Peninsula provides some of Kerry's most spectacular coastal scenery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need before you play Castlegregory Golf Links

Castlegregory is a nine-hole course played twice with some variation in tee positions to produce an 18-hole round of 5,800 yards. This is a traditional format for smaller links clubs in Ireland and it works well on this type of open links terrain. The round takes approximately 3 to 3.5 hours and provides excellent value for money.
Castlegregory is ideal for beginners, golfers returning after a long break, families, and anyone who wants a relaxed, affordable links experience without the pressure of a full-length championship course. It is also a popular choice for experienced golfers wanting a quick, enjoyable round before or after a more serious day at Tralee, Ballybunion or Waterville.
The course is built on a narrow sandbar spit with Tralee Bay to the south and Brandon Bay to the north — meaning water is visible from virtually every hole. Brandon Mountain, at 952 metres one of Ireland's highest peaks, dominates the eastern horizon, while the Blasket Islands are occasionally visible to the south-west on clear days. The course is never crowded, always scenic and utterly authentic.
Castlegregory Golf Links is located approximately 20km north-west of Tralee on the R560. The drive from Tralee takes about 25 minutes along the northern Dingle Peninsula road. From Camp Village, follow signs for Castlegregory and the golf club. The course is clearly signposted once you reach the Castlegregory peninsula.
Castlegregory village has B&Bs, holiday cottages and the popular Fitzgerald's Pub which also offers accommodation. Tralee (25 minutes) provides the widest range of hotels and facilities. The surrounding peninsula is also popular for camping and glamping in summer. The area is a watersports hub — windsurfing and kitesurfing are popular on Brandon Bay — making it attractive for multi-activity groups.
